Sneak Peek for the Week

Someday 1 - 7, 2011

This week we are in Zone 4: The Master Bedroom

This month's Habit is: Swish and Swipe

Zone 3: Mission #1 Monday

Today's mission it look up high and get the cobwebs off the ceilings and clean the vent grill. I know this is a nasty thing; get a proper step ladder and you better have on your shoes. If you don't have a bathroom vent then clean the light fixture. You know remove those dead bug bodies and wash it. Then put it back up. This will not take long.

We are also in another room this week. I have chosen the Office; this can be your home office or your office at work. Look on the left side of your computer and go through this pile and file it or toss it. Then take 5 minutes and write down the beginning of your office routine.

On one sheet of paper, write down the things that you need to do as soon as you get into the office. You know; make coffee, check mail, check voice messages, I don't have to tell you what needs doing at the office. Just write down what you do for now. You can put them in order later.

Zone 3: Mission #2 Tuesday

Our bathrooms get grungie from dirty little hands and big hands that come into the bathroom to get washed. Today we are going to take a hot soapy rag and wash these dirty spots off the door facings, switch plates and door knobs. They have become invisible to us. Now don't obsess about this. You don't have to do the whole door. It takes only a two minutes. I know because I just did it.

Now for your office mission for today. Let's tackle the right side of your computer. Clear out that pile; File and toss! Then take 5 minutes and write down on one piece of paper your "going home routine" or "stopping work" for the day routine.

Zone 3: Mission #3 Wednesday

Today we are going to look at the front of our bathroom vanity. If you have a big one then you may not be able to do it all; so pace yourself. Most smudges and toothpaste spots will come off with a damp microfiber rag. Don't use harsh chemicals on wood or painted surfaces. Do one drawer front or one door at a time. Wipe off the knobs and handles too. A little wiping every day will eventually take the layers of dirt and grime away.

Now for your office mission. Look at your computer screen. Has it become your sneeze guard? Take a damp microfiber rag and wipe down your screen. You may have a special cleaner for this. I don't, but a slightly dampened microfiber rag will work well. I didn't say soppy wet either; just damp. I want you to think about a basic weekly plan for your office. What day do you do banking? When do you have meetings each week? Do you have a weekly office blessing hour for emptying the trash and making things look nice? Some people do this on Friday afternoon. This way you walk into a nice clean office on Monday morning. Just think about everything that needs to be done in a week as far as work goes and assign a day to do these things. If something has to be done every day then put it on the daily routines.

Zone 3: Mission #4 Thursday

Today we are going to think about things that we would like to change in our bathroom and make a want list. Now you don't have to go out and buy it all at once. Think color; paint, towels, and shower curtain. This is your chance to dream and scheme. Flying means we learn to break projects down into babysteps and not kill ourselves or our budgets. Then make a list of things you are running low on in the bathroom; Shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, toothpaste. You know what your use. Take inventory and see what you need. Do you have a master list of everything you use in the bathroom? Just think about it and eventually put one in your control journal.

Now for the office.Do you love your desk? Have you cleared it off enough to be able to smile when you raise up your head from working. If not finish cleaning off the top of your desk. It is a lie that a cleared desktop means there is an empty mind sitting behind the desk. A clean and clear surface will help you to focus and not be overwhelmed. Try it! You may just like how it feels. Now keep the what-nots and pictures to a minimum. More is not better. There is nothing worse than one of your hotspots pushing the family pictures to the floor.

Zone 3: Mission #5 Friday

We started high in our bathrooms and we are working our way down to the floor. Today we are going to do our baseboards. I know it is hard for us to get down on our hands and knees to do this. The baseboards get dusty, then you steam up the bathroom with a hot shower and the dust turns to mud. If you have not done this in a while then do one wall at a time. I have been know to use a new toilet bowl brush for this so I don't have to bend over quite so much. Be creative; do it while the kids are bathing. Have them clean the baseboards; they are shorter and then put them in the tub. Make a game of it. Give them a spray bottle with just water in it or a squirt gun. Making it fun will get the job done.

For your office mission today we are going to check and see if we need any office supplies. Make a list: printer paper, printer ink cartridges, pens, notepads, file folders, dry erase markers. We all need a master list for this too. So we can just skim it and see what we need without having to try to remember it. I have a rule for our home office. I keep a reserve printer ink cartridges. When I install the reserve I have to buy the new one. Then I place an order online and it is delivered to our door.
